Smiles was able to extend life up to 7 years. A study found that with a big smile creases around the eyes which can prolong life more deeply. This study adds evidence that pleasure and happiness can have a strong impact on the health and life expectancy.

Researchers believe that a wide grin and the creases around the eyes reflecting the underlying positive outlook on life that translates into long-term health is better.

This conclusion emerged from the study of old photographs. The experts at Wayne State University, Michigan, studied 230 major league baseball player photos printed in the 1952 Baseball Register. Each registered player statistics, such as date of birth, weight, marital status and employment details.

Researchers rank each player based on whether they did not smile at all and smile in part, where only the muscles around the mouth are involved, or a big smile by lifting the cheeks and folds in around the eyes.

The researchers then compared the images with the lifetime of every player. The results showed that out of 184 players who now are dead, they are in the category of ‘no smile’, and has an average life of 72.9 years.

They are smiling in part, have an average age of more than 75 years. But those who smiled broadly have an average life of up to 79.9 years. The study, published in the journal Psychological Science confirms fake smile can not provide the same benefits, because of extra life expectancy is only visible to players who actually smiling, which is known as the Duchenne smile.

Duchenne smile is a smile that involves the muscles around the mouth and eyes. While a smile ‘non Duchenne’ only influence the shape of the mouth. Duchenne taken from the name of a neurologist on the 19th century which defines in detail smile. Other findings that support also showed that the happiness and smiles can reduce the risk of heart disease.

Scientists who examined more than 1,700 people over the past ten years found that people with anxiety and depression are more likely to suffer from clogged arteries and high blood pressure.
