Nutrition or calorie labeling on restaurant menus is actually helping consumers be more conscious and make better decisions about what they are eating.
The New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene released initial findings of an analysis on the impact of the city’s menu-labeling laws. Results indicate that consumers have become more selective in choosing food with fewer calories. In fact, people purchased lower calorie meals at 9 of 13 fast-food restaurant and coffee chains that were included in the study.
Nearly one-third of American adults are obese, which puts them at an increased risk for developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other medical conditions. In addition, another one-third of American adults are overweight. A healthy diet can go a long way in the prevention of obesity, as well as build a solid foundation for maintaining health later in life.
